Essence announced on Tuesday that Kelly Rowland will be the 2019 host for the 12th annual Black Women in Hollywood Awards later this month.
The two-time Grammy award winner and six-time nominee said in a statement, “I’m so honored to host this year’s Essence Black Women in Hollywood Awards and shine a light on four exceptional women for their art and social activism.” According to Essence, Rowland can’t wait to join the celebration at one of the most anticipated Oscar-weekend events, saluting Black women in Hollywood.
During this years ceremony, Essence will be honoring Regina Hall (Black Monday), Jenifer Lewis (Black-ish), Amandla Stenberg (The Hate U Give), and Kiki Layne (If Beale Street Could Talk). This years timely theme will be: The Power of Our Presence: Art & Activism.
Along with her role on Empire, Rowland will be starting off the year staring as Gladys Knight in BET’s new upcoming series, American Soul. The show is expected to give insight on the work done behind the scenes that went into creating the series, Soul Train.
The Awards ceremony will be held on February 21, 2019 at the Beverly Wilshire in Beverly Hills, California.
